Each movie has a different civic organization staffing it. This is a way of giving back to the community on so many levels. Some of them have websites, click on their logos for more information about them.
Making Southington better with these civic groups
The Southington Drive-In is unique not only because it is one of only three remaining outdoor venues in the state, but also because it has been purchased by the town of Southington. A little history on our town treasure: the drive-in first opened in 1955 and operated for nearly half a century before closing in 2002. In 2004 Southington residents voted to purchase the property to expand nearby Recreation Park and enjoy continued outdoor activities at the nostalgic site.
In early 2010 a group of local volunteers gathered under the auspices of the “Southington Drive-In Committee” to begin the process of reopening the drive-in. Thank you to all of our supporters for an unbelievably successful 5 seasons of Movie at the Drive-In. We are proud to say that over our first 5 seasons we have been able to distribute over $72,000 to 17 local non-profit Southington civic organizations. We are very grateful for all the help from some of Southington's great civic groups.
We would like to remind you that if we run out of vehicle parking in the Southington Drive-In, walk-ins are welcome to join us. Please park in Recreation Park off of South End Road. Do not park on Meriden-Waterbury Turnpike (Route 322) or at any of the nearby businesses.
You can bring in chairs and blankets to sit around the pavilion or projection booth to see and hear the movie. Picnic tables are also available under the pavilion. Walk-ins are $2 a piece, with a $10 maximum for a family. Check out the rest of our fifth season as a community owned and volunteer operated season.
The official 2015 is posted under the "2015 Schedule" tab on the left.
